Model– Isaya Evans ~In reality, being a creative is rough, tough, uncertain and full of challenges… sometimes you want to give up. But, not exactly for a boy whose first ever role was as a DOOR. Seeing the other kids sing, dance happily past me (as I stood as a door in a kindergarten role play), created a spark in me, “I didn’t have to be the shy boy anymore!”. I knew I had to be out there… never to be chained on one spot again! Fast forward to campus. Amidst chasing after my degree in a different field, my love for arts still stood out, while lying to myself acting was just but a hobby, it finally stole (my limelight and my heart). After graduation, I got a job which I quit barely a week after ; I wasn’t going to be a door again in this story of life…
Joy Maringa, a certified professional Make-up Artist is also a self-taught Lip Artist. She has always had a special interest in beauty and loved makeup from childhood when she started using her mom’s cosmetics. Her mom always encouraged her to experiment with it, especially lipstick and replenished her stocks whenever they ran out.
Joy studied Marketing and Entrepreneurship for her Undergraduate and Postgraduate respectively at the United States International University before reviving her childhood passion in make-up. Her art, what she calls “lip-art” is generally inspired by her love for colour and design as well as by social stereotypes and culture. Joy’s experience in make-up and lip artistry has exposed her to countless encounters of how people perceive their bodies; and is intrigued by the human bodies and relationships human have with their bodies. She seeks to explore these relationships further through her art.
She has exhibited at the East African Art Biennale 2017/2018; and featured in the Kenya Arts Diary -2019 Edition & Art Exhibition; the Women in Art for International Women’s Day 2019 among other platforms, as she continues to mentor and train in professional make-up art.
Cold seasons has to be one of our favorite times for engagement photos, everything looks so pretty and romantic. But when you’re photographing Grace and Moses, I think we could have done it anywhere and it would have turned out pretty and romantic (and pretty darn fun). These two are just the best, complete gems, inside and out.
