Isaya Evans Casting Director :: iGabantu Studios Portraits Actor

During the Covid-19/Coronavirus Lock-down I did a photography project – photographing Isaya Evans the casting director and an Actor on the New normal, where the tissues /toilet papers became more useful and the lemons were scarce, hiking the prices at the iGabantu Studios, Formerly Hillcrest Academy, 209 State House Rd, Nairobi. Lack of routine can be challenging at these times.  There will be an extended period of adjustment to this new normal and uncertain world pandemic. Everyday activities have assumed a greater significance and I have set myself the challenge to take an interesting and different photograph each day to try and show this.  The challenge is to consider what to photograph and when and keep the project style consistent.  I want to capture what under normal circumstances would be a trivial subject and elevate it to this new significance.

Model– Isaya Evans   ~In reality, being a creative is rough, tough, uncertain and full of challenges… sometimes you want to give up. But, not exactly for a boy whose first ever role was as a DOOR. Seeing the other kids sing, dance happily past me (as I stood as a door in a kindergarten role play), created a spark in me, “I didn’t have to be the shy boy anymore!”. I knew I had to be out there… never to be chained on one spot again! Fast forward to campus. Amidst chasing after my degree in a different field, my love for arts still stood out, while lying to myself acting was just but a hobby, it finally stole (my limelight and my heart). After graduation, I got a job which I quit barely a week after ; I wasn’t going to be a door again in this story of life…

SOLACE
Day in day out, things happen occasionally and some planned or others done randomly. Sometimes they say you fail to plan you are planning to fail, but in real life—ain`t that always serious as it is stated. Back to our photography journey especially concerning the solace concept. The main theme/concept or the planned shoot concept was supposed to highlight or be the part of the cancer campaign come the month of October ,but again as I started shooting and the kind of light setup I had already arranged, I thought for a second time why don’t I try and enhance the low lighting something which always trickles my mind since the photos leaves emotional mood which you can’t run away from , more than the slit lighting also trying to create some illusion especially on the two high contrast black and white images showing the body parts, since they say human body itself is an art. Thank LORD the model skin tones were dark, lets us for once appreciate our color. Black is beauty, no debate about that, and in case you want to debate with me, I will be glad to hear from you the other side of the story. I guess it’s a game of probability, you either have head or tail, my contacts are all-over, no need to ask for one. She was to cooperative considering that I hadn’t briefed her on what were shooting. Yes, it is good to plan and share the ideas with your team but again things/stuff do happen and you are left in for a rude shock, meaning we should be really flexible for unseen things. Actually sometimes not always the random stuff do force someone to the comfort cocoon and try new things-imagine if the students knew how the exam will be. There won’t be a need of studying hard or smart as it is argued.

Kanga Leso Headwrap :: Kenyan African Head Gear

The  head-wrap exists in many cultures. You can tie it as you want and make a bold statement with a nice print or fabric type. One mystery to many is:-how do I tie a head-wrap? Well, many ways are commonly used-for example- You can use a long strip of cloth wound `round the head,or utilize a few extra pieces under  the main one!!!!!! It wont be easy for the first time but within time, the more you try,the more you will find your own way and style.

I wish more people felt that photography was an adventure the same as life itself and felt that their individual feelings were worth expressing. To me, that makes photography more exciting.

Even though fixed in time, a photograph evokes as much feeling as that which comes from music or dance. Whatever the mode – from the snapshot to the decisive moment to multi-media montage – the intent and purpose of photography is to render in visual terms feelings and experiences that often elude the ability of words to describe. In any case, the eyes have it, and the imagination will always soar farther than was expected.

In terms of fashion, I love adding a fun scarf to whatever I’m wearing – it’s a great way to dress up a plain outfit!

There is something that feels stagnant about having things you don’t use or wear. But shoes are my thing. Shoes and scarves, I’m a big fan of the scarf.

Loved my scarf. I have a few in different styles…but my personal fav is the tassel scarf. I have it in this light blue “waterfall” color that is gorgeous and in black

These scarves are wonderful. You can wrap and tie them hundreds of ways and it makes a beautiful shoulder wrap. They are so soft and cuddly; the colors are beautiful. Plus who couldn’t use some kind words?

It gets to a point when that hot cup of coffee just isn’t keeping you warm enough anymore and that’s when you know it’s time to break out the cozy layers!  Model |  Diana Machira Of Denim & Cateye

Now, we all experience those lazy days when we just don’t feel like putting too much thought or effort into the day’s outfit. Sound familiar? Well, even on such days, plaid is one great way to dress up any ensemble! Whether you’re throwing on jeans and a tee or a simple solid-colored dress, tossing on a fitted plaid coat is a surefire way to add some pattern and excitement to your outfit, making it look like you actually tried this morning. You can thank me later. Model |  Diana Machira Of Denim & Cateye

                                                              CHIC CADET

Military inspired jackets started out as a trend, but have quickly become a bona fide classic! They have this tough, androgynous appeal and they rank sky high in style and function, as long as you’re looking to brave the chill.

This week I will be sharing with you a few of my favourite looks featuring three of my favourite military inspired jackets.

Kenyan Creative Lifestyle Photography :: Denim & Cateye Lifestyle Blogger
Kenyan Creative Lifestyle Photography :: Denim & Cateye Lifestyle Blogger

Kicking off this series is this tried-and-true asymmetrical number. Just like denim, olive green sits fabulously with the rest of the neutrals and pairs beautifully with pretty much anything! When it came down to pairing, I opted for pearly whites and for a bit of edge, my adored pointy-toe pumps. I also downplayed my accessories, making the shoulder epaulets and perfectly polished buttons the focal point for a cool, clean and chic utilitarian look.

                                  NOSTALGIA: MICHAEL JACKSON INSPIRED

Say what you will about the king of pop, but MJ’S influence over the fashion conscious: UNDENIABLE! Today’s military jacket is in fact a toast to his inimitable and legendary style. Though one can look a foolish mess trying to pull off some of his signature looks (Lol!), a girl can borrow a leaf or two and restyle it to suit her personality  With his death anniversary just days away, I figured I’d pay my tribute by sharing with you a one-for-two featuring this stunning street style piece.

Here I tried to balance the bold and tough appeal of the jacket with a red body-con dress that hits about mid-calf. I love that the dress is sleek and effortless, making it a great canvas to pair with a statement jacket and strappy footwear that allows me towering height.

Kenya Fashion Awards Creatives :: Lifestyle Fashion Photographers Kenya

COLLABORATION WITH KENYA FASHION AWARDS, DESIGNERS AND THE MODELS

I have been in the Fashion industry for almost two years. It is a tough journey since our industry is still growing .There is very low percentage of the people and especially the young generation willing to venture into this industry due to low return, but again we need to take high risk in return to have higher profits margin.I guess the white collar jobs are fading away since very few elements  are willing to resign and the population in our Country is growing very rapidly like bush fire. Due  to this am very happy for the organizations which are willing to help the youth in various ways and also nurturing the young talents.

Last weekend I was glad to be   involved in a noble exercise by the KFA in their upcoming Fashion Awards  where I was working with various genre in the fashion industry and in return was able to have a good networking and learned new things from designers, models and my fellow photographers whom have been in this industry for long in the likes of Radek

I was able to learn two or three things from him,am hoping to rub shoulders with him again in the near future.

Here are some of the images I managed to capture. The location of the shoot was provided by the KFA

Hope you are having great day, as we celebrate  Madaraka Day. This week we concentrated on nightwear; for more of this click here.

LOOK ONE: SHE’LL BE WEARING PINK PYJAMAS

Just like the nursery rhyme, this set is tres cute! From the nighty’s playful shade of pink, to the polka dot gown it comes with, this set nods to the 90s trend and I’m nodding right back. ~ Diana Machira Model |  Diana Machira Of Denim & Cateye

 LOOK TWO: ANIMAL MAGIC

In soft cotton, this classic set is a perfect gift idea, even for yourself! It features a fun and playful leo print and quite frankly, it gives me the urge to host a pyjama party and slink around, cocktail in hand, looking oh-so-glamorous! ~ Diana Machira

LOOK THREE: COZY PEACH

I love the colour Peach for its sweet and sophisticated nature so it’s only natural that I gravitated to this nightgown. Nairobi has been experiencing cold nights lately and finding anything to battle the chill can seem fruitless, well, until you stumble upon this number! It’s super soft and extra cozy, perfect to provide extra warmth and comfort while you relax at home. ~ Diana Machira
