Joy Maringa, a certified professional Make-up Artist is also a self-taught Lip Artist. She has always had a special interest in beauty and loved makeup from childhood when she started using her mom’s cosmetics. Her mom always encouraged her to experiment with it, especially lipstick, and replenished her stocks whenever they ran out.
Joy studied Marketing and Entrepreneurship for her Undergraduate and Postgraduate respectively at the United States International University before reviving her childhood passion in make-up. Her art, what she calls “lip-art” is generally inspired by her love for color and design as well as by social stereotypes and culture. Joy’s experience in make-up and lip artistry has exposed her to countless encounters with how people perceive their bodies and is intrigued by the human bodies and relationships humans have with their bodies. She seeks to explore these relationships further through her art.
She has exhibited at the East African Art Biennale 2017/2018, and featured in the Kenya Arts Diary -2019 Edition & Art Exhibition; the Women in Art for International Women’s Day 2019 among other platforms, as she continues to mentor and train in professional make-up artists.
